Yankees Make Roster Changes for Phil Hughes

The Yankees needed to adjust their roster in order to make room for Phil Hughes, who started for the first time since April on Wednesday night.

Lance Pendleton was the player who got sent down in order to make room on the 25-man roster, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. Hughes was on the 60-day DL too so they needed to release Kanekoa Texeira also in order to make room on the 40-man, according to Hoch. In an unrelated move, the Yankees outrighted reliever Buddy Carlyle to the minors after he was designated for assignment last week.

No big surprises in these moves. Texeira has been a disappointment since he was claimed from the Royals. Pendleton has also been inconsistent since being called up and was used for nearly 50 pitches on Tuesday night so he wasn’t going to be able to pitch for a few days anyway.
